Practice at Home

Now, more than ever, we need to make sure we are taking care of our physical and mental health, as most of us are being called to stay home during this global crisis. There are an array of ways we can do this and hopefully you already have your self-care checklist to get you through these times. I would like to offer you another item for that list: an at-home yoga practice. I am excited to share that I now have THREE different ways you can practice with me from the comfort of your home, whether live or on your own time:

Yoga for Mental Health

Yoga for Mental Health is a new yoga video series unlike any you've seen before! Each episode explores a nuanced, but commonplace, mental health experience (i.e., negative self-talk, racing thoughts) using a physical yoga practice with actual therapeutic activities that I (and other therapists!) use as a psychotherapist. A new episode is released on the first of every month and only costs 0.99 US$! Trust me, to exercise your body and your mind is well worth the cost ;)

Live Restorative Yoga Classes

Every Sunday morning, I teach Restorative Yoga on Instagram Live from 11-11:45am EST. Each class is created to activate your parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) and deactivate your sympathetic nervous system (SNS). The SNS is the "fight or flight" system that gets activated when you feel threatened. This doesn't always mean that you are in immediate danger, but our nervous system is still responding as if it is. Many of us are living in an activated SNS state during this global crisis, essentially a constant state of anxiety. When the SNS is activated, our hearts and thoughts race, our muscles tense, our digestion slows - basically our body is preparing for us to respond to the "threat." The PNS is responsible for feelings of calm and relaxation and it is nicknamed the "rest and digest" system because your body finally feels safe enough to restore it's natural, healthy functions. Each class begins with a breathing exercise followed by a mixture of restorative poses and gentle, "mini-flows," and ends with a guided meditation. All classes are uploaded to IGTV if you missed the live showing!

Full Vinyasa Flow Practices

Since I am now working from home full time and all the local yoga studios are closed, my yoga practice is 100% at home. I figured, if I'm already practicing at home, I might as well record it and share it with you! These practices are full vinyasa flow practices, meaning there's a warm-up, a sequence that incorporates vinyasas, and a cool down. If you are looking for a more rigorous practice than the restorative class (or just want to compliment them!), then definitely check this out. So let's practice together in each our own home!
