How I Can Help You
As a psychotherapist, yoga teacher, and queer Mestiza Filipina, I have a question for you: How does your internal voice speak to you? Is it compassionate, loving, encouraging, and warm? Or is it harsh, critical, judgmental, and punishing?
I’m going to take a wild guess and say it’s more likely the latter. How do I know this?
I have spent years working with women, the LGBTQIA+ community, and folks of color and I happen to identify as a queer woman of color myself. Most of us tend to speak to ourselves in this harsh, critical way. We have internalized it from the macro to the micro: from the systems that tell us we are “other” and don’t deserve compassion to our own family members who are working through their trauma and may inadvertently pass it on to us.
The real kicker is: we believe this harsh, critical voice is helpful by motivating us to be “productive”, to accomplish, to succeed. So while it hurts to talk to ourselves this way, at least it keeps us going, right? Actually..no.
What if I said you can be warm and compassionate towards yourself and still be everything you want to be and do everything you want to do - in fact, even MORE so than before? What if I told you, in doing that, you can create safety and soothing in your own body - things you may be unfamiliar with or have never truly felt before?
I work with women and queer folks to develop a compassionate awareness of your internal and external experiences while building tangible skills to cope with anxiety, shame, identity, relationships, trauma, and more. During our time together, we also process how white supremacy, colonization, capitalism, heteropatriarchy, and other powerful, oppressive social systems have contributed (even perpetuated) the concerns you bring to the virtual therapy room.
In every session I guide you through a personalized yoga practice to help you feel grounded and connected with your body. We then move into talk therapy where I do all I can to create a space of safety, warmth, and non-judgment for you to speak freely and openly. We close the session with a guided meditation.
At its core, our work together is about cultivating and nourishing a compassionate, authentic self so you can participate in your daily life and responsibilities from a deactivated and grounded state. I know this is much easier said than done and that’s what I’m here for - to support and guide you along the way, so you know you’ll never have to be alone again.
